Dominique James has a good article with a lot of tips at O'Reilly looking at slide shows. This is a very common requirement and there are many, many ways of making them and showing them. I usually do it the simple way: export the images and then import them into iPhoto, or for a very quick show, just select them and use Finder's built-in slide show accessed with a control-click.
